Hello everyone, my name is John Wall and this is where I write about Marketing and whatever else I find interesting (your mileage may vary). I also have a weekly podcast called The M Show which is great for your commute to work (or even if you don't commute). You can also listen to Marketing Over Coffee, a podcast I do with Christopher Penn. BTW, I don't look this good, I have a great photographer. I can be reached at: john at themshow dot com

Seth Godin and Mitch Joel both suck.

I don’t mean that in the bad offensive way, I mean it in a “I’m jealous because you’re so good that you’re making everyone else look bad.

I’d say I mean it in the “friendly rivalry” way, but a Thunderdome-style, “Marketing Duel to the Death” of Me vs. Seth Godin would be like Michael Jordan, real-life basketball legend, vs. Danny O’Toole (me), fictional 2nd stringer for St. Mary’s Kindergarten for the blind. On the other hand, on my best day with home field advantage, I could give Mr. Joel a good game (maybe).

“Enough with the complaining and butt-kissing” you say, “on with the content please…”

Ok, while my blog over the past week has consisted of me whining about being sick, Mitch broke the story of Mr. Godin’s newest book. He also had great post about my hero, Fred Rogers, that you should watch right now.

Yes, I know this is a shock from a guy who’s writing all consists of Marketing as some variation on war, brainwashing or Mortal Kombat. I actually worship Mr. Rogers. Check the scoreboard - he’s the best at what he did, loved by and helped millions, and had a house on the Island of Nantucket. Case closed. I’ll have another post this week as a full response regarding Mr. Rogers.

Mr. Godin’s book, Meatball Sundae (click for Squidoo Lens) is about “the unfortunate result of mixing two good ideas.” For anyone trying to apply “new media” in an old school organization, it’s easy to see how committees could crank out Meatball Sundaes (or worse, I’ve seen more than one Crap Sundae). This is what is called “Cup of Soup” marketing (thanks, Sergio Zyman).- a name (or analogy in this case) so brilliant and accurate that it has the power generate 1.2 gigawatts and reverse the flow of time, sending me back to when I was 21 years old and giving me a chance to consider becoming a professional bowler instead of doing marketing.

To repent I have resolved that I will have at least 2 posts that don’t suck this week and I’ve ordered both Meatball Sundae and The Dip, new from Amazon (even though I have a great library here in Natick, and always buy used books because I am cheap). Feel free to click that last meatball link, it generates affiliate revenue for me because somebody needs to be the next cool neighbor on Nantucket.

I can tell it’s all love John Wall. I’m just doing my best to secure the wing named after me in your new home.

Looking forward to hanging out with you at PodCamp Boston.

Dude, you are so on fire this week…

We’re still settling in, but it’s in good enough shape for entertaining. We’ll have the ribbon cutting at PCB2… I need to work on a plaque…

John, it is a pleasure hanging out with you in the shadows of Seth and Mitch’s greatness.

Where Seth blows me away as a blogger and author, Mitch is rocking new media… the 6 Pixels Podcast http://www.twistimage.com/blog/podcast is my first listen every week now (sorry Joe Jaffe) and he’s also up to almost 1000 members in the 6 Pixels Facebook Society!

Yeah, I don’t know if he changed his schedule or what, but Mitch has turned it up to 11 lately…
